Simmonds drops puck, reads lineup before Flyers game

Saturday was all about honoring Wayne Simmonds, and his big day continued up until puck drop between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils at Wells Fargo Center.

After the former Flyers forward was honored for his contributions, both on and off the ice, in a special ceremony during the day, he participated in the pregame festivities as well.

He started by reading out the starting lineup to the team in the locker room.

Later, he was joined by Flyers captain Sean Couturier and Devils captain Nico Hischier for the ceremonial puck drop.

In a video posted by the team on social media, some of Simmonds’ former teammates shared messages of support for his retirement night.

Simmonds played eight seasons with the Flyers. He announced his retirement on March 18, and on Friday signed a one-day contract with the Flyers to officially end his career with the team.

Simmonds had 378 points (203 goals, 175 assists) in 584 regular-season games with Philadelphia and 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 30 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
